BIOGRAFIA.

O Helloween é uma banda alemã originada no começo da década de 1980 por Michael Weikath (guitarra), Kai Hansen (guitarra e vocal), Markus Grosskopf (baixo) e Ingo Schwichtenberg (bateria). É considerada por muitos como a criadora do power metal. Influênciou bandas como Angra, Hammerfall, Stratovarius, entre outras.

O Início de tudo.

Embora poucos saibam, a história do Helloween começou no final da década de 70, mais precisamente no ano de 1978. Uma jovem banda alemã, chamada Gentry, que contava com Kai Hansen e Peter Sielck como alguns dos membros, foi o embrião para a formação do Helloween. Em 1980, a banda já havia sofrido algumas mudanças de formação e Markus Grosskopf (baixo) e Ingo Schwichtenberg (bateria) já faziam parte do line-up. Nessa época, o nome do grupo não era mais o mesmo: Second Hell foi o segundo nome utilizado, mas que durou apenas dois anos, quando então eles batizaram a banda com o nome de “Iron Fist”. Nesse périodo, o jovem talentoso guitarrista Michael Weikath, juntou-se ao time e então finalmente deram o nome de “Helloween” para o grupo alemão, que tocava um Heavy Metal mais melódico do que o tradicional.

Fase de Revelação.

Primeiras Gravações – Walls of Jericho.

Participa de uma coletânea intitulada “Death Metal” com as músicas Oernst Of Life e Metal Invaders. Logo depois lançam o seu primeiro trabalho, o EP Helloween (1984) que contém cinco músicas: Starlight, Murderer, Warrior, Victim Of Fate e Cry For Freedom. O primeiro “full lenght” vem em 1985 com Walls of Jericho. Esses primeiros trabalhos trazem um Heavy Metal cru, veloz e melódico que tempos depois viria a ser chamado de Power Metal.

Keeper Of The Seven Keys I e II.

Com a sobrecarga de duas funções, Kai Hansen deixa os vocais e concentra-se na guitarra, deixando o posto para o jovem Michael Kiske, então com 17 anos, oriundo da banda I’ll Prophecy.

Com essa formação, que por muitos é considerada a clássica, o Helloween lança os dois trabalhos mais famosos da sua história que são os Keeper of the Seven Keys I e II (1987 e 1988 respectivamente). A voz marcante e poderosa de Kiske leva os alemães a atingirem sucesso mundial com turnês em vários países, inclusive no Japão. A idéia era lançar um álbum duplo, o que foi barrado pela gravadora. Por este motivo, os Keepers estão divididos em duas partes. É lançado o primeiro disco ao vivo gravado no Reino Unido, que recebe o nome de “Keepers Live” no Japão, “I Want Out Live” nos Estados Unidos e “Live in the U.K.” no resto do mundo.

Kai Hansen sai da banda.

Considerado como o mentor da banda e criador do Metal Melódico, Kai deixa a banda no início de 1989 devido às inúmeras desavenças de ordem musical com Michael Weikath e também por não gostar das imensas turnês. Roland Grapow (ex-Rampage) assumiu seu lugar na

Fase de Transição.

Pink Bubbles Go Ape e Chameleon.

Com essa nova formação o Helloween lança mais dois trabalhos: Pink Bubbles Go Ape (1991) e Chameleon (1993), com um estilo enriquecido por elementos clássicas e medievais. Participaram como convidados músicos conhecidos como Stefan Pintev, Axel Bergstedt e o coral infantil da Orquestra “Johann Sebastian Bach”. Os CDs, no entanto, não são bem recebidos pelos fãs da banda por fugir da temática heavy metal original do conjunto. Público escasso e em alguns momentos shows tiveram que ser cancelados por motivos diversos como falta de público e problemas internos. A banda vivia a sua maior crise. Apesar disso, são dois bons álbuns, onde a banda soou amadurecida.

Ingo falece, Kiske sai, entra Deris.

Michael Kiske sai da banda devido a problemas de relacionamento com outros integrantes e Ingo Schwichtenberg por motivos de saúde(saiu no meio da tour do Chamaleon). Kiske segue carreira solo e aposta numa música mais pop. Já Ingo, que sofria de esquizofrenia, suicidou-se atirando-se para a frente de um vagão do metro de Hamburgo,em 1995.

Para substituí-los, são convidados Andi Deris – vocalista vindo da banda de hard rock Pink Cream 69 e Uli Kusch – baterista vindo do Gamma Ray.

Ps: Richie Abdel Nabi foi chamado para tocar na banda quando Ingo saiu. Ele ficou apenas na tour do Chamaleon até chamarem Uli Kusch para entrar na banda.

Retorno ao topo.

Era Andi Deris.

Master of the Rings.

Com uma formação e força novos, o Helloween volta ao auge lançando o álbum Master of the Rings (1994) e começa a ganhar espaço novamente no cenário metálico mundial, sendo esse o álbum recordista de vendas da banda.

The Time Of The Oath e High Live.

Em 1996 é lançado outro grande álbum, The Time of the Oath, com faixas famosas como Power, Forever and one, We burn entre outras, o qual gera um álbum ao vivo gravado na Espanha e na Itália: High Live, que gerou uma Versão em fita VHS e posteriormente em DVD. A banda volta a fazer sucesso mundial, onde é escolhida a banda do ano no Japão pela revista Burrrnnn!

Na turnê deste álbum a banda vem pela primeira vez ao Brasil. Pela simpatia dos nipônicos, o Helloween lança um exclusivo para aquele povo: O Pumpkin Box, com quatro cds que abordam toda a carreira do conjunto.

Better Than Raw.

Continuando na mesma linha do anterior (The Time of the Oath) , eles lançam o Better Than Raw (1998), encerrando o contrato de gravação com a inglesa Castle, que durava desde o “Master of the Rings”. Este álbum possui uma sonoridade mais melódica porém bem pesada, agradando inclusive fãs da formação antiga da banda.

Metal Jukebox.

No ano de 1999 a banda lança a coletânia Metal Jukebox, com sucessos não necessariamente relacionados ao metal, mas que influenciaram os integrantes da banda, como as bandas Focus, Scorpions, Jethro Tull, Faith No More, Abba, Beatles entre outras.

The Dark Ride.

Assinando contrato com a Nuclear Blast, gigante na Europa no mercado de heavy metal, lançam o álbum The Dark Ride (2000), onde apostam numa sonoridade mais pesada e um pouco obscura, deixando um pouco de lado a melodia e alegria que eram características da banda desde o começo. O álbum gera críticas positivas e negativas, desgastando o relacionamento entre os integrantes da banda.

Devido a desavenças internas, Roland Grapow e Uli Kusch saem para formar o Masterplan e para seus lugares são chamados Sascha Gerstner, (ex-Freedom Call) e Mark Cross (ex- Metalium,Firewind recentemente), que, respectivamente, assumem a guitarra e a bateria. Durante a gravação do novo álbum, Mark Cross foi obrigado a sair da banda devido a problemas de saúde, e Mikkei Dee do Motörhead assumiu provisoriamente a bateria na gravação do álbum.

Rabbit Don’t Come Easy.

Em 2003 a banda lança Rabbit Don’t Come Easy, onde resgata um pouco da melodia perdida em outrora. Stefan Schwarzmann, ex-Running Wild e Accept é convidado para participar como baterista da turnê do álbum, saindo da banda após o início da gravação do próximo álbum.

Com a saída de Stephan Schwarzmann (que pelos comunicados oficiais, não conseguiria tocar os sons do novo álbum, o que motivou sua saída espontânea da banda) Dani Löble ex-Rawhead Rexx é chamado para assumir a bateria.

The Keeper of Seven Keys – The Legacy.

Em 2005 a banda lança a terceira parte da saga Keeper of The Seven Keys, Keeper of The Seven Keys – The Legacy, e partem para sua turnê mundial, onde gravaram seu novo DVD ao vivo (intitulado de Keeper of the Seven Keys – The Legacy World Tour 2005/2006 – Live on 3 Continents) na Bulgária, Japão e Brasil. No Brasil tocaram em cinco cidades: São Paulo (onde ocorreu a gravação do DVD e do CD), Rio de Janeiro, Porto Alegre, Curitiba e Santos.

Gambling with the devil.

No ano de 2007, o Helloween lança o seu décimo terceiro álbum de estúdio intitulado Gambling With the Devil, tendo aceitação positiva por boa parte dos fãs, critica e pela própria banda. Um aspecto positivo do álbum é que ele traz mudanças no som e no peso, com os acordes elaborados característicos da banda e um peso em todos os instrumentos e no vocal, sendo esse considerado o seu seu álbum mais completo desde o Better Than Raw.
Durante a turnê deste álbum, algo histórico também acontece, pois pela primeira vez na história a banda sai em turnê mundial juntamente com o Gamma Ray, banda criada por Kai Hansen, um dos músicos que originaram o Helloween, ao lado de Michael Weikath e Markus
